Shift scheduling software for real duties, not a blank grid

Shift scheduling software should know the difference between an opening shift, a close, and an overnight watch. Schedultary starters name those duties for the kind of workplace you pick: retail open, mid, and close; a restaurant's prep, lunch, and dinner; a hotel's day, swing, and night audit; a 12-hour security day and night. You edit the times, the minimum headcount, and who is allowed to work them. The generator fills people into those duties. It does not invent a shift you never created.

Coverage is a number you set

Each duty has a minimum. A date can override that minimum, including zero, which closes the day and clears its assignments. Publish is refused while coverage or a mandatory rule is still broken. Soft rules, such as spreading Saturday and Sunday work, show up as something to look at. They do not block a legal draft.

Overlaps and time off are hard stops

A hard rule can block two duties at the same time, a missing supervisor, or a shift on a day someone has off. Those placements do not sneak into a published month. If you want a person held on a particular shift while the rest of the month is regenerated, lock that assignment.

Questions

Can one person work two shifts in a day?

Only if your rules allow it. Overlapping duties are a hard block when that rule is on. A split shift can be marked so the gap in the middle is still one workday.

What about overnight shifts?

A duty whose end is at or before its start finishes the next day. Rest rules, when you turn them on, can treat back-to-back duties as one tour.

Can I schedule more than a month?

Shop periods can be a fortnight, a month, a quarter, a year, or a custom range. Residency years are a separate calendar of blocks.
